TWD - French Yogurt Cake with Marmalade Glaze

This week's TWD recipe, French Yogurt Cake with Marmalade Glaze, has grown on me to the point that I am now liking it. The description of the cake that Dorie uses in her cookbook is right on the mark - it's somewhat of a pound cake and somewhat of a sponge cake. The cake itself is moist and has a nice texture to it, but it is also sort of bland to me. I tasted a piece of it while it was still warm and really didn't care for it. I decided to give it another try once I read all of the rave reviews that it was getting from everyone else. The cake had had time to cool completely and it tasted much better. The nuttiness came through a bit more this time. I bet that it would taste really good toasted just a bit.

I didn't make the marmalade glaze to go with it. For those who did, I bet that it was great. I pureed some strawberries and sugar, and then stirred in a little of the left over almonds from the cake recipe for my topping. With the strawberry topping, it was more like a strawberry shortcake, I guess.

We have Liliana of My Cookbook Addiction to thank for choosing this week's recipe. You can see the recipe for this French yogurt cake on her blog.

  1. I'm glad you gave it another try once the cake cooled. I think it gets better after a couple of days (that is, if there is any leftover).

    Great job!!!

  3. I have it wrapped up tightly in hopes that it will get eaten. I'm glad that I tried it again, too. After looking at so many blogs, I want to try it with some sort of lemon topping.

Yes! If I had whipping cream on hand today, I would've made some sort of strawberry shortcake out of it. I bet it would be delicious that way!

  5. Too bad that we're not neighbors, I'd share a piece of it! I could use a cup of coffee right now...I don't do mornings well.

  7. I love your honesty! Saw that recipe on several other blogs yesterday - it's fun to see all the variations that come from one recipe.

Looks like it would be a fabulous vehicle for strawberry shortcake!

  9. I'm glad you made it Tami! I thought it was delish, but after a couple of days it started to dry out. Might have been better kept in the fridge. Yummy with lemon curd!

  10. Your topping looks spectacular! I will have to give this recipe a go - it looks great. I hate that some recipes tend to taste better with time.. because when your house if full of the smell of freshly-baked-goodies, you want to eat it NOW now Tomorrow or the next day! GRRR

  11. I thought that it was the best tasting right after it had cooled down. I'm usually not a big fan of something that has set for a couple of days. I didn't store mine in the frig, either, so maybe that's why I didn't care for it on the third day. I'm the same way as Stephanie...I want to eat it when I am finished making it. lol!
